October 1, 2018

You’re invited! Historical Research Center Open House, Thursday, October 4, 1pm.

The Historical Research Center will sponsor an Open House this Thursday, October 4th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the HRC on the 5th Floor in celebration of American Archives Month. The Open House will feature light refreshments and an exhibit on Edith Irby Jones, M.D., the first African American to be admitted to a public medical school in the South (1948) and a graduate of UAMS in 1952. This year, UAMS is celebrating the 70th anniversary of Dr. Jones’ admission to the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1948.

American Archives Month is celebrated during the month of October each year with the goal of raising awareness of archives and in recognizing the value in preserving our local, state, and national histories. We hope you will be able to drop in on October 4th. The Open House is co-sponsored by the Society for the History of Medicine and supported by the Society of Southwest Archivists.

Hope to see you all this Thursday!
