Welcome Lisa Smith, MLS, Library Director
Today we are excited to announce that Lisa Smith, MLS, begins as Library Director. Lisa brings more than 10 years of administrative experience while employed at the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center Library, the University of Texas at Arlington, and Baylor Health Sciences Library. Since 2016 she has been serving as executive director for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, South Central Region, in Fort Worth, Texas. She earned her Master of Library Science degree from the University of North Texas.

The Active Learning Center reopens today, Monday January 6
The preliminary phase of the equipment renovation in the Active Learning Center that took place over the winter break has been completed and after-hours access will resume this evening.
Holiday hours for the Library
The Library will be closed from Saturday, December 21 through Sunday, December 29, 2019.
Limited hours begin :
Monday and Tuesday, December 30 and 31, from 7:30 am – 5:00 pm
Closed Wednesday, January 1, 2020 New Year’s Day
Thursday and Friday, January 2 and 3, from 7:30 am – 5:00 pm
The 24/7 after-hours access area is not available due to renovation.

Construction Project in the Active Learning Center
Construction has begun in the Active Learning Center to update technology.
The ALC is closed during the day but will be available for after-hours access after the work has finished for the day (around 5pm) on December 18 and 19.
As of December 20th, the ALC and the 24/7 access will be completely closed through January 5, 2020.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The Library hours for the Thanksgiving holiday:
Wednesday November 27: Open 7:30am – Close 6pm
Thursday, November 28: Closed
Friday, November 29: Closed
Saturday, November 30: Open 9am – Close 6pm
Sunday, December 1: Open 1pm – Close 10pm
The After-Hours area on the 1st floor of the Lobby is available to students and residents when the Library is closed.
The Student Success Center and the Title IX/ADA Coordinator Office will be closed on Thursday and Friday and through the weekend.

Veteran’s Day hours
The Library will be open regular hours on Monday, November 11. 7:30 am – 10:00 pm.
The Student Success Center and the Title IX /ADA Coordinator’s office will be closed in honor of the holiday.
Labor Day holiday weekend hours
The Library will be open regular hours on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1.
Saturday hours 9:00am – 6:00pm
Sunday hours 1:00pm – 10:00 pm
The Library will be CLOSED on Monday, September 2.
The after-hours area on the 1st floor of the Library will be available on Monday to students and residents who may enter through the card swipe door in the lobby between the ED II and Rahn buildings.
Databases, ejournals, and ebooks are available through the Library website as usual. library.uams.edu

Power restored to the Library and renovation update
The power was restored to the Library late Sunday.
As of 10am, Monday, August 12, the Library elevator is out of service and awaiting repair.
Renovation update:
Quite a bit of shelving on the east side of 3rd floor was removed last week and over the weekend so we are making good progress in this first phase.
Dismantling the shelving will continue through the week and you can expect some noise during the day and in the evenings.

Power outage / Library closed at 2pm on Saturday
The Library is currently without power. The after-hours area on 1st floor, however, is accessible to students and residents through the entrance between the ED II and Rahn buildings. There is no wifi, but lighting from the emergency lights is low-level and adequate for some reading.
The e-resources are available from the website and are not affected.
We closed at 2pm on Saturday and will reopen when the Code Purple is lifted and power restored.
