Do you remember card catalogs in libraries?

The UAMS Library used a print catalog until 1988 when we moved to the online version.
The wooden cabinets holding the many drawers for the 3 x 5 inch printed catalog cards took up the space on the 1st floor of the Library between the Circulation Desk and the entry to the Active Learning Center where the round wooden tables stand now.
[mediacredit id=”107833″ size=”medium” align=”alignright” credit=”National Library of Medicine”][/mediacredit]Dr. Stephen Greenberg, Head of Rare Books and Early Manuscripts at the National Library of Medicine’s History of Medicine Division provides an interesting look back at the print card catalog.  Read the article here.

Saturday – Windows in the Library will be cleaned

On Saturday, February 8, campus Environmental Services crews will be in the Library to clean the interior windows between 9am and 2pm.
We hope this won’t be too distracting if you are studying in the Library during that time.  We have to admit that we’re really excited to get the windows cleaned because it has been a long time since the last cleaning.  You’ll notice the difference!
Thanks for your patience!

Quick Tip: How to find a journal article if you have the citation for it

There are 3 ways to access full-text journal articles through the Library website:

  1. Look up the journal title on our Journal List and navigate to the volume and issue you need
  2. Access PubMed through the Library website and when you’ve found the citation use the Full-Text links to get to the article
  3. If the Library does not have access to the full text of an article, use Interlibrary Loan

For more help to find articles, contact the Education and Research Librarians at 686-6734 or mail LibraryReferenceDesk@uams.edu
