The Library is open to the public and the materials are available for on-site use.
How to Register for Library Services:
- Faculty, staff or student at UAMS
— Present UAMS photo id badge at the Circulation Desk
— Register Online
- Licensed or certified healthcare professional in Central Arkansas
— Arkansas Driver’s license and proof of current licensure
- ARKLINK participant
— Present a current ARKLINK card and Driver’s license or other photo id at the Circulation Desk.
Update Patron Record
In order to maintain current information on your patron record, Library staff may ask you to update your record periodically when you are checking out materials.
An online registration form is available for you to update information in your Library record.
You should update your record…
- If your mailing address changes
- If your e-mail address changes
- If your phone number changes
- If you change jobs
- If you get a replacement UAMS ID badge
- If you marry and your name changes
- If you are a UAMS student and your student status changes
Circulation periods, renewals and holds
Ten (10) books may be checked out concurrently.
Books circulate for three weeks and may be renewed once. If a HOLD has been placed on any item, it cannot be renewed and must be returned to the Library.

Extended Circulation Policy
Extended check-out is available to UAMS Graduate School students. The time frame for extended checkout will be negotiated at the time of checkout but will usually be for one semester at a time because library print resources are limited.
If any items are requested for use by other patrons, the graduate student will be contacted and asked to return the book(s) to the Library within 4 business days. If the items are not returned within that time, a $1.00 fee per day for each book requested will be charged. The patron requesting the item will have three weeks use, with no renewals. The item will then be checked back out to the graduate student, if still required for extended checkout.

Book on Hold
You may place a “HOLD” on any item that is currently checked out or not on the shelves and you will be contacted by e-mail or phone when the item is available for you. Holds may be placed at the Circulation Desk in the Library.
Fines for overdue books are $1.00 per day per book with a maximum fine of $30.00 per item.
Primary notification of the due date for items is the date stamp in the book entered at the time of checkout.
Courtesy notices are sent through e-mail three (3) days prior to the due date of checked-out books. Renewals may be requested by phoning the Circulation Desk (686-5980) during operating hours or by renewing on-line.
A second courtesy email notice is sent the day the book is due and the first overdue email notice is sent the day after a book is due. Renewals may be requested at that time by phoning the Library (686-5980) during operating hours.
If an e-mail address is not available, the date due stamped in the book serves as the primary notice of the due date and overdue notices are not sent.
Billing for overdue or lost items:
If items are not returned by the due date, two subsequent notices are sent. The final notice is a bill for the replacement costs of the items; overdue fines incurred (up to $30.00 per item). Borrowing privileges are suspended and will not be reinstated until the materials are returned and fines are paid or replacement costs and fines are paid if the materials are lost.
When overdue items are returned, replacement costs are waived and the patron is responsible only for the accumulated overdue charges.
If items are lost, the charges for each item will include replacement cost of the item and accumulated overdue fines.
There are three locations where you may return Library materials.
- The Circulation Desk on the first floor of the Library
- Bookdrop in the lobby of the Education II building
- The Outside bookdrop at the Northeast corner of the Education II building across from the North Parking Deck
Please do not return the following items in the bookdrops but bring them into the Library:
- Audiovisual materials
- Items checked out from the Historical Research Center
Journals dated prior to 1966 are stored off site and can be made available upon request via the Library’s Storage Item Request Form. This service is only available to UAMS students, faculty, staff, certified healthcare professionals in the Central Arkansas area and eligible library card holders.
The library will contact patrons when the material is ready to be picked up. Once the patron is contacted the materials will be held at the front desk for two days. Items not picked up after notification will be returned to storage. Please call 686-6741 or 686-6740 for more information.
Lost and Found
Personal items left in the Library are kept at the Circulation Desk for approximately two months. Keys, cell phones, PDAs, pagers, ID badges, and wallets are given to the UAMS Police on a regular basis and may be claimed by contacting them at 686-7777.
