Databases Useful in Pharmacology & Toxicology

Journal literature databases:

MEDLINE via PubMed or Ovid - Citations to biomedical journal literature back to the 1940s.

IPA(on Ovid) - The International Pharmaceutical Abstracts database provides worldwide coverage of pharmaceutical science and health related literature from 1970 to the present and is updated monthly. It includes drug therapy, toxicity, and pharmacy practice as well as legislation, regulation, technology and other topics related to pharmaceutical science and practice.  See Ovid tutorials

SciFinder Scholar - Chemical Abstracts - 2012 New web requires one-time user registration.  Search journal and patent literature from natural, biomedical, and physical sciences using bibliographic, substance, or reaction details.  See Tutorial 

TOXLINE - Covers journal literature related to toxicology. It is part of TOXNET (Toxicology Data Network) from the National Library of Medicine.  The network also has fact resources such as Toxicity test results, Chemical ID, and Toxics Release Inventory.

Web of Science - Science Citation Index Expanded - Social Science Citation Index.  These are especially used for seeing what articles are being cited and by whom.  See our eTech@Noon training session. You will need to run Wimba’s Setup Wizard if this is your first time on Wimba.

Fact and Clinical Tools:

Lexi-Comp - Point of care source for pharmacology and clinical information.  Clinical applications include drug interactions, tablet and capsule identification, medical calculations and patient advisory leaflets. Mobile device app available - Pharmacy students should contact Dr. Cindy Stowe in the Dean's office for authorization codes to the mobile device app. See Tutorial

Clin-eguide - Point-of-care tool that provides one-click access to important clinical resources recommended by physicians for physicians. This searches medical literature (MEDLINE), Facts & Comparisons Drug Information, selected books, national guidelines, and more.
 
Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database - Evidence-based, evidence-rated information on herbal and dietary supplements.  Includes natural product/drug interaction checker.  References in the monograph text link to our eJournals full text checker.

AccessPharmacy- Online curricular resource designed to meet the changing demands of pharmacy education.  Allows students to select a core curriculum topic, browse by organ system, review textbooks, or search across leading pharmacy online references.  Limited to 5 concurrent users.  Please log out when finished.

DynaMed - Evidence-based clinical point of care tool with over 3,200 topic summaries. Also available on mobile devices. UAMS faculty, students, and staff request a serial number for use on mobile devices using UAMS email; Arkansas health professionals request mobile device access by emailing Jan Hart or contacting their local Regional Center library.

NLM Drug Information Portal- Resources from government agencies searachble by various criteria such as audience, topics, drug names, news & more.
