Databases Useful in Basic Sciences

Journal literature databases:

MEDLINE via PubMed or Ovid - Citations to biomedical journal literature back to the 1940s.

IPA (on Ovid) - The International Pharmaceutical Abstracts database provides worldwide coverage of pharmaceutical science and health related literature from 1970 to the present and is updated monthly. It includes drug therapy, toxicity, and pharmacy practice as well as legislation, regulation, technology and other topics related to pharmaceutical science and practice.  See Ovid tutorials

SciFinder Scholar - Chemical Abstracts - 2012 New web requires one-time user registration.  Search journal and patent literature from natural, biomedical, and physical sciences using bibliographic, substance, or reaction details.  See Tutorial 

TOXLINE - Covers journal literature related to toxicology. It is part of TOXNET (Toxicology Data Network) from the National Library of Medicine.  The network also has fact resources such as Toxicity test results, Chemical ID, and Toxics Release Inventory.

Web of Science - Science Citation Index Expanded - Social Science Citation Index.  These are especially used for seeing what articles are being cited and by whom.  See our eTech@Noon training session. You will need to run Wimba’s Setup Wizard if this is your first time on Wimba.
